Well I'm back in the swing of working again. I do find that I have to be mindful of my own need to over achieve. What I am starting to figure out is the importance of self care. I need to be okay with taking time for myself and not feel guilty for it. This last weekend was a good example of that.
I haven't had a day to myself for about 3 months now, since hubby has been out of work again. Sunday he had a small side job to do and even though he was hopeing I would give him an excuse to not go I was not about to give up my self care day. I did do laundry, cleaned the house, made the bedroom look all nice and inviting. Then I got to my self care. I lit some candles, ran a bath and soaked until I looked like a raisin. I splurged and ate ice cream for lunch and made myself a nice dinner. It is amazing what self care can do for you.
Now that I am a working girl (woman) I also need to remember that I need to be a self care kind of girl also. Breathing, focusing exercises and sticking with my counseling other wise I'll end up being a not working girl and I am not going to let that happen. I enjoy working, it gives me purpose, meaning and self worth and I enjoy those feelings.

So busy................
I've been so busy I haven't really had the time to blog. The new job is going well, although I do have my days. Someone asked me if it was easier to blog when things were more challenging than when things are going well. I gave some thought to this and realized that when things seem to be more challenging it is easier to write because it is therapeutic in a sense. When things are going well it seems that it is more of a challenge and in part that is because I am busy. I enjoying feeling well, therefore I am doing more.
So what is it that helps me feel healthy and allows me to move through challenges and not get derailed by them????? Well, I have been using a lot of focusing and mindfulness exercises, along with deep breathing. Yesterday for whatever reason my anxiety was acting up but I focused on getting myself to work and once I was there I focused on making a to do list. The anxiety stayed with me for the whole day but I was able to do my work because it allowed me to shift my focus.
I'm finding that being connected to things, like work, really help me understand the importance of connection to something other than just ourselves. It gives us meaning and purpose in our lives and that has a great deal of healing power. I feel so much more empowered , even when I am anxious, that I can do something that is meaningful to me and hopefully have an impact on other's. I enjoy proving people wrong when they think that someone with a serious mental illness can't contribute to their community. I am learning that inspite of having an serious mental illness I have much to offer and I should never sell myself short.
